What is Spartan Race?

Founded in 2007 Spartan Race is a series of obstacle races of varying distance and difficulty ranging from 3 miles to marathon distances. These races are held in the United States and have been franchised to 30 countries, including Canada, South Korea, Australia, the Philippines and several European countries. Each year Spartan tries to host a race in Oahu. WHEA Spartan Club members can choose to attend the race in Oahu with their family if they would like. ‘Ohana Sports usually takes some of their staff each year to participate.

Who is leading Spartan Club at WHEA?

This club is hosted by ‘Ohana Sports. Program Director Tara Brown, martial arts teacher, former certified SGX Spartan Trainer and Occupational Therapist will be leading the trainings. Tara has completed the Beast at KuaLoa in 2019 and the Super in Oahu and London 2022, a trifecta (Beast, Super and Spring) in Seattle in 2023 and Oahu Super and Sprint in 2024. Teen Coach Soyer has been on our staff for 3 1/2 years and will be helping out and participating in trainings. He placed 1st in the Super (7 mile) race in August 2022 in his age group at KuaLoa and 2nd place his age group in the Beast Seattle 2023. This year in Oahu he won 1st place at the Beast and 3rd in the Super in his age group finishing out his youth carrier with 13 medals including 2 weekend trifectas.

What will be be doing?

Every session we will be working out Spartan style and learning how to become ‘unbreakable!’ The 7 pillars of Spartan are Stamina, Athleticism, Readiness, Tenacity, Attitude and Nutrition. Each student will be starting with different levels of fitness. We will tailor workouts to each student so they are challenged and get a good workout in.

Atmosphere!

‘Ohana Sports Motto is ‘Discipline, Respect and Honor.’ We strive to work hard, do our best, always encourage others and have a ton of fun. Bad attitudes and disrespect are not welcome to the Spartan Club!
